NVIDIA is taking a cautious approach on netbooks and is unlikely to involve itself in that field anytime soon, company officials have said at the Credit Suisse technology conference. Company CFO Marv Burkett acknowledges that it could ultimately produce graphics chips and other hardware for the mini notebooks but is waiting for netbooks to “evolve” before taking any initial steps into the field, which was effectively born with the launch of the Eee PC 700 line late in 2007 and is just now gaining traction. Apple’s latest MacBooks are poised to lose their graphics advantage in short order, a new report suggests. Acer, ASUS, Dell and HP have confirmed plans to launch notebooks with NVIDIA’s GeForce 9400M integrated graphics chip, which has been described as substantially faster than many other integrated chips currently in use. Some of these companies claim that the 9400M could spread to as many as 20 percent of Intel-based notebooks, branching out from MacBooks, which were the first with the technology. (more…)

Mungkin tahun ini memang tahunnya ATI Radeon. Hasil pengujian yang dilakukan PCGH (www.pcgameshardware.com) membuktikan bahwa Radeon HD4870 mampu mengalahkan Geforce GTX 280 yang harganya nyaris 2X lebih mahal. Menurunnya penjualan Geforce akibat penjualan VGA ATI Radeon 4800 laris di pasaran membuat NVIDIA mencari solusi dengan cara mengganti nama produk yang ada di pasaran.

Selama ini NVIDIA memang terkenal mengubah - ubah merk produknya agar terkesan sebagai produk baru, misal Geforce 8800GT dirubah menjadi 9800GT, 8600GS menjadi 9600GSO, dan kini NVIDIA lagi-lagi memutuskan untuk merubah nama beberapa produk yang telah ada di pasaran, sebagai berikut:
- Geforce 8800GT, 9800GT, 9800GTX (G92) diganti menjadi Geforce GTS 150
- Geforce 9600GT (G94) diganti menjadi Geforce GT 130
- Geforce 9500GT (G96) diganti menjadi Geforce GT 120 (more…)

At a press conference at the CEATEC show currently held in Japan, ATI graphics department senior vice president and general manager Rick Bergman announced the company’s products will support DirectX 11 in 2009, hinting at a new range of graphics processing units (GPUs), among other news. Along with support for the new programming interfaces, the update will bring with it more advanced OpenGL 2.x features. The AMD-owned graphics label also revealed it will use a 40nm process to make its chips and use the GDDR5 memory standard more widely, both of which should make for considerably higher performance graphics processors. NVIDIA on Thursday announced it has partnered up with digital video software creator MotionDSP to provide users with a way to enhance the quality of personal videos created by their cellphone cameras, point-and-shoot digicams, camcorders or video captured from the Internet. Written using NVIDIA’s CUDA general-purpose computing technology to take advantage of the GPUs’ abiilities to handle non-graphics tasks, MotionDSP’s codenamed Carmel software tracks every pixel from tens of video frames before reconstructing high-quality video from low-res sources.
