WPA Wi-Fi encryption partially cracked

The Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption standard has been partially cracked by security researchers Erik Tews and Martin Beck, according to a Thursday report. The pair will demonstrate and discuss their accomplishment at the PacSec conference in Tokyo next week. The attack allows the hacker to read data sent from the router to a laptop computer and send inaccurate information to connected clients. Beck has reportedly found a way to break the crack the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) key used by the WPA standard in about less than 15 minutes, which is the shortest amount of time such an attack can be performed to date. NAVist III brings near-PC functionality into cars

Seoul-based HS Networks is showing off a car navigation and entertainment system at tradeshows that can play movies and audio tracks on CDs and DVDs, and perform functions usually associated only with entertainment PCs. The NAVist III is a double-DIN receiver that houses a removable hard disk drive and has a DVD optical drive. Users interface via a 7-inch screen that will show the contents of a DVD or an optional rear-view camera, or photos stored on the HDD or an SD card. DivX-encoded video files are also supported. Microsoft outs two Wireless Desktop combos

Hoping to push some of its peripherals’ designer looks into the mainstream, Microsoft today update both the mid-range and low end of its mouse and keyboard combos with a new model each. The Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 has much of the same translucent-framed look of the 7000 but with a simpler design and a 2.4GHz RF-based mouse that goes without the Flip 3D or Magnifier controls but adds a mini USB receiver to let the 6000 leave home with a notebook. In exchange, the number of Favorites keys expands from three to five to help launch more custom apps or file views. (more…)
