Gmail for Mobile 2.0: Available for J2ME and BlackBerry

Google released a new version of its GMail app for J2ME-enabled and BlackBerry phones. The main goal was to make the application faster and more reliable, hence the code has been rearchitected to push all the processing to the background. Microsoft Offers Free Software to Startups

Microsoft today announced that it will give away software and services to qualifying software startups as part of its newly announced BizSpark initiative. To qualify for this program, a startup has to be privately held, in business for under three years, and generate less than $1 million per year in revenue. Once accepted into BizSpark, enrollment is free, but the startups will have to pay a nominal fee of $100 when they leave the program. (more…)

Windows 7, Win Mobile 7 bundle due in fall?

Microsoft is allegedly planning to launch Windows 7 in the fall with a mobile bundle to drive sales, a rumor from the Register notes. Cellular retailer Carphone Warehouse is reportedly in the early stages of a deal for September or October next year that would give users both a copy of Windows 7 upon its launch as well as a free smartphone using Windows Mobile 7, which is also anticipated during the same year.
