DYA Cell Phone Concept from Aran Mun

dya-cellphone-conceptHere’s a cool little concept device. Not sure how practical it’d be, but it sure is unique. Named the ‘DYA Cell Phone’, Designer Aran Mun designed this one to open diagonally (yep, a diagonal slider) to make or receive calls. Buttons are round and soft to the touch, which would make for easy and comfortable dialing. Call it ’strange’ if you like, but I’m going to stick to ‘unique’ for now. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it would actually be comfortable to hold on to the white portion of the device while the darker black/screen portion was up near my ear. Might work… might be comfortable… Hard to tell…

Toshiba outs 16GB microSDHC, class 6 SD cards

Toshiba started its Wednesday with news of a much higher-capacity 16GB microSDHC card as well as faster full-size SDHC cards. The former doubles Toshiba’s previous best and gives cellphones and some newer still cameras a large amount of storage for music and photos. The card is relatively slow with a minimum Class 2 (2MB per second) transfer speed in exchange for the capacity. Toshiba starts mass-producing the cards in January and should deliver them shortly afterwards. (more…)

Honda intros experimental walking assist device

Honda Motor on Friday announced it will begin real-world testing of its second experimental walking assist device designed to reduce the strain on a user’s leg muscles and joints such as hips, knees and ankles. The device will supporting a portion of user’s body weight whether they’re crouching, walking or climbing stairs and is meant to help both those physically weakened with age or injury as well as workers who would need to reduce the stress on their bodies from heavy work or unusual positions. Popularity contest plugin and WordPress 2.6

One of my favorite plugins is Alex King’s Popularity Contest. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work with the latest WordPress release 2.5, nor Wordpress 2.6

Microsoft fears Chrome’s JavaScript performance more than Flash

A Microsoft spokesperson recently talked about the introduction of Google’s Chrome browser, and apparently it has them at least somewhat concerned. Microsoft’s Scott Hanselman said that Silverlight could face a serious threat from Chrome (and Firefox), if Google and Mozilla continue to improve the execution speed and efficiency of JavaScript. According to him, a “100 to 1,000 fold” increase in JavaScript speed could be expected from the two rival browsers, which would turn it a better choice for numerous web-based applications.
