Google launches fully unlocked Android Dev Phone

Google today catered to Android developers either outside of T-Mobile coverage or eager to avoid restrictions with the Android Dev Phone 1. Essentially a carrier-neutral T-Mobile G1, the new model is completely unlocked for both its SIM card slot and hardware features to let users test the device on other GSM networks, including AT&T. The The change lets any owner run Google’s reference firmware as it appears. The black design also sports a unique back engraving with a fractal-like pattern and the Android logo. (more…)

Developer Releases Tethering App For Android

Given the high cost of air cards, laptop users everywhere are turning to tethering applications in order to take advantage of the internet connections provided by their mobile phones. Although many mobile operators don’t support tethering, ingenious developers have found ways to get around those restrictions. Thanks to their efforts, we now have tools like PdaNet, a tethering application for Palm, Windows Mobile, and iPhone. But what about the newly released Android phone? Can it be tethered, too? Android G1 gets its game on with AndroidBoy

Last week the Androidboy GameBoy emulator package was released into the Android Market for download to T-Mobile G1. The Androidboy emulator is a fork of the JavaGB open source mobile GameBoy emulation project. There are versions that will run on Java based phones using MIDP and one that you can run on your PC, though I’m not sure why you would want to. (more…)

AndroidBoy brings Game Boy emulation to Android Market

One of the first applications launched for the iPhone was a GameBoy emulator. The application was an unofficial release available only to iPhone owners that had jailbroken (and thus opened up access to the file system) their handsets. The iPhone GameBoy emulator was restricted to jailbreak-circles due to its dubious legality and the non-sanctioned SDK tools used to develop the application, but it was a decent success in its own right. It sure would be nice if someone developed a GameBoy emulator for Android. (more…)
