At a press conference at the CEATEC show currently held in Japan, ATI graphics department senior vice president and general manager Rick Bergman announced the company’s products will support DirectX 11 in 2009, hinting at a new range of graphics processing units (GPUs), among other news. Along with support for the new programming interfaces, the update will bring with it more advanced OpenGL 2.x features. The AMD-owned graphics label also revealed it will use a 40nm process to make its chips and use the GDDR5 memory standard more widely, both of which should make for considerably higher performance graphics processors. A year ago, if you wanted worthwhile performance in modern games, the high-end graphics card market was the only place to go. Though parts like the GeForce 8600GTS offered decent performance for the price, using them as the graphics leg of a bonafide gaming system was little more than a joke. However, for gamers short on cash, or those of us that would just like the simplest, most elegant solution for medium-intensity gaming, AMD has just released what might be the archetype of a budget graphics card.

Kalau ingat iklan operator 3 (Three) yang menawarkan keunggulan operatornya dengan kalimat “mau”, maka ATI-AMD sepertinya tidak harus mengeluarkan kata – kata “mau” pun orang sudah mengantri ingin mencobanya.

Bayangkan dengan harga $80 ATI Radeo HD4670 performanya sanggup mengjurkirbalikan kemampuan NVIDIA Geforce 9500GT yang dijual di kisaran $100, masih kurang? NVIDIA Geforce 9600GSO yang dijual dikisaran $130 pun sanggup dikalahkannya.

AMD perusahaan processor yang mengakuisisi ATI, menghadirkan terobosan terbaru dalam teknologi Video Card. Yakni, meluncurkan chip grafis teraflop pertama di dunia lewat ATI Radeon HD 4850 dan kartu grafis pertama di dunia yang mengusung memori dengan bandwith sangat besar, GDDR5, ATI Radeon HD 4870.

Yang menjadi sorotan adalah ATI Radeon HD 4850. VGA ini mampu mengungguli 40% lebih tinggi dari GForce 8800GT dibeberapa BenchMark Game, Sedangkan pada 3DMark06, kinerja Radeon HD4850 lebih tinggi 20% ketimbang Geforce 8800GT. Bahkan dibanding Geforce 9800GTX yang harganya berkisar $350 itu, kinerja Radeon HD4850 pada 3DMark06 masih lebih tinggi 10%, padahal ATI Radeon HD 4850 dirilis dikisaran harga $200 saja.
