Computer builder Dell has begun selling the UltraSharp 1909W, its latest LCD monitor. Measuring 19 inches in a 16:10 ratio, the screen supports resolutions up to 1440×900, with a a 5ms response time and brightness rated at 300cd/m2. Contrast is measured at only 1,000:1, and the viewing angle is limited to 160 degrees; a number of ports are provided however, including four for USB devices, one for VGA input, and another for DVI video. A product page for the XPS 1340 notebook PC on Dell’s website hints at the upcoming release of the laptop, which could happen as early as this week. While the product page is incomplete, it does reveal the notebook will have a 64GB solid-state drive that will fit into the bay sized for traditional 2.5-inch hard disk drives. It’s the same SSD as Dell uses in the XPS M1330 in overseas markets, and the XPS 1340 is likely to be an update of the XPS M1330 model. (more…)

Dell today rolled out a pair of build-to-order options to give the Inspiron Mini 9 features previously only available outside the US. A new 3G option during the customization process installs a 7.2Mbps HSPA card that provides cellular broadband on AT&T’s network in the US as well as supporting foreign networks. The feature costs $125 but receives an immediate $120 discount if the Mini 9 is bought alongside a two-year data plan, Dell says. (more…)

Fulfilling an earlier promise, Dell has quietly made the Vostro A860 available for the US. The system is one of Dell’s only 16:9 aspect ratio notebooks but, unlike other extra-wide notebooks, is targeted at the entry level that might otherwise consider a netbook; its 15.6-inch, 1366×768 screen is its stand-out feature, while most components skew towards the low end. Dell today officially launched the Inspiron Mini 12 for the US after its initial run in Japan. The 12-inch crossover between a netbook and ultraportable now starts at $549 and is partly slower than the smaller Mini 9. A lesser 1.33GHz Atom is compensated for by 1GB of memory, a 40GB hard drive and Windows Vista Home Basic versus the 512MB memory, 4GB flash and Ubuntu Linux necessary to drive the Mini 9’s price down. Dell today upped the stakes for all-in-one PCs with the launch of the XPS One 24. The system ups the size of the PC to 24 inches and gives it a new, edge-to-edge 1080p (1920×1080) display with a 16:9 ratio that should make it ideal for watching Blu-ray movies at native resolution. The update also brings a major speed update with a 2.33GHz Core 2 Quad as well as the option of a GeForce 9600M GT for video that makes it a better fit as a gaming system or for heavy-duty HD video decoding.
