Zune 8GB drops $50 in aggressive promo

Canadian big-box retailer Future Shop has launched an unusual campaign that sees it drop the price of the Zune 8GB by $50 to just $100. The deal lasts until November 20th for all colors and significantly undercuts both the American and Canadian prices for a device which is still considered current-generation, with the Zune 8GB having received a software upgrade and a more permanent cut to $150 in September. MS reaffirms porting Zune UI to Win Mobile

Microsoft is still committed to including aspects of the Zune interface to Windows Mobile devices, company chief Steve Ballmer said in an interview with CIO published late Thursday. The company co-founder supports the public company position and makes no mention of a rumored, internally developed Zune phone but instead says some form of the Zune shell will eventually be ported to Windows Mobile to give the device a better media experience than today’s smartphones. Zune 3.0 ships with Originals, McD’s Wi-Fi

As promised, Microsoft today rolled out its Zune 3.0 software and the according updates for its Zune players. The upgrade lets every Zune from the original 30GB model up to the new 16GB and 120GB versions download songs directly from the Zune Marketplace over Wi-Fi as well as tag songs on some FM radio stations to buy them either from the device or with the next PC sync. Users both on the players and the Windows software also get access to dynamically updating Channel playlists, while the software alone gets a Mixview that shows related music and related listeners.
